It’s only April, and the ads have started showing up in my Instagram feed:
“5 ways to get your summer body.”
“Lose 20 pounds before summer”
“Get that summer body…start today”
Here’s the deal. Our bodies, yours and mine, are our bodies all year long.
Every season. Fall, winter, spring and yes, summer.
As if we don’t experience enough pressure in our culture day in and day out about the ways our bodies look. We add an extra layer when it comes to summer.
I call a timeout!
I’m not giving into the societal pressure to work out longer, eat less, stress more, and obsess about my summer body.
My heart’s desire is that we as women say yes to going to the beach, lake, out on the boat, or swimming. Say yes to whatever summer activity you enjoy doing without having a thought about not going because you don’t believe your body is “summer” ready.
If you find yourself hesitating to say yes to a summer event, ask this question: Do I think my value is tied to my appearance? Am I more or less worthy to show up and enjoy this experience based on how my body looks?
Listen, we all have insecurities, and we’re often our own harshest critics, but hear me out…don’t miss out!
Don’t miss out on connection, and the invitation to be together with your friends or family because you think your body is not worthy enough. Go make memories, laugh, and share stories. Enjoy food, fellowship, and take selfies. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and show your authentic self.
Your body is beautifully made…even in the summer!
